Using your TAFE email address as a staff member
About the download option
There is a download option, it allows you to install a small bit of software (the Office 365 client) from Microsoft on your computer. That small bit of software gives the product some offline ability and puts shortcuts on your desktop. However please be aware that Office 365 will still require a connection to the internet to work fully.
Your email service may include an office suite for free.
If you use outlook you already have access to free Office online. If you use gmail you already have access to Google Drive which has its own suite of tools for spreadsheets, presentations and word processing.
Both products work in a limited way offline but require internet access for full functionality.
Along with Microsoft Office and Google Docs, Libre Office is one of the most popular Word Processing and Office suites available. Unlike Office 365 and Google Docs, this downloads to your computer and is fully functional with, or without, an internet connection. It includes a word processor, spreadsheet and power point system, as well as other modules. It is free, with no restrictions such as time limits, or advertising.
It complies with all standards which means that documents produced in Libre Office will be fully functional in other softwares such as Microsoft Office. Microsoft Office documents are highly functional within Libre Office.

Hints for users:
For ease of use with Microsoft Word, consider saving text documents as ".docx" in the 'SaveAs' option. You can also make this the default SaveAs option in LibreOffice's preferences. The same goes for spreadsheet files (SaveAs .xlcx) and presentation files (SaveAs .pptx)
You will need to register at TAFE Webstore using your TAFE email address.
